Students Learn Techniques and Career Advice From Professional Community Artists
With support from an NKSF grant, North Kitsap High School students received an opportunity to learn from artists working in our local community during the 2023-2024 school year. With only $1000 in grant funding from NKSF, students learned from and interacted with artists in our community who are working professionally to produce art.
Multiple lectures and workshops, provided by a diverse group of local artists through the high school’s Continuing Technical Education (CTE) art club, AMPS (Art Makers Production Studio), gave students real-world art production knowledge. All grade levels, as well as staff, were able to attend the workshops and create works of art utilizing the techniques that career artists use in their work every day.
CTE opportunities such as these provide students with an insight into some of the subtle nuances of certain professions. Working and making a living as an artist can prove difficult, but the inspiration gained from these workshops and lectures prepared students with the knowledge they need to succeed after high school. Just the type of education needed to go beyond the basics.
