GLEN ROBBINS INNOVATION
IN EDUCATION AWARD
Growing up in North Kitsap, Glen Robbins attended Wolfle Elementary and graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1972. He advocated tirelessly for students and faculty throughout his entire career, first as a teacher in Bainbridge Island School District, and as principal of Ordway Elementary. Returning to North Kitsap schools, Glen served as principal of Poulsbo Elementary and Breidablik Elementary. A singularly dedicated educator, Glen enjoyed over 40 first days of school throughout the Bainbridge Island and North Kitsap school districts.
His dedication to service in the North Kitsap School District community continued throughout his entire life. Glen would often volunteer to read to elementary students helping them develop their reading skills. In 2015 he was elected to the North Kitsap School Board, District 4, while also serving as a trustee and Vice-President of the North Kitsap Schools Foundation. He also served as President of the Sons of Norway in Poulsbo, and was awarded the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce Person of the Year in 2019.
Glen situated himself within the community as a fervent collaborator. He lived by the mantra, “Communicate, communicate, communicate.” As an advocate for education, he worked to encourage state legislators to fully fund schools, and strived to develop advanced placement and continuing education programs along with community partnerships to provide real-world career training so that children had greater options leaving school whether they chose to attend college or not.
To honor our long-time friend, mentor, and avid community contributor, the North Kitsap Schools Foundation created the Glen Robbins Innovation in Education Award to recognize an educator in the North Kitsap School District who has implemented a new, creative, and/or cutting-edge program or opportunity that connects curriculum and learning to real-life situations.
Glen’s legacy of service and collaboration carries on in the presence of these teacher driven programs and opportunities throughout our district campuses that are funded by the community through NKSF. We are honored to recognize innovative educators who share Glen’s vision through the Glen Robbins Innovation in Education award.
