Alice Wood Memorial Scholarship
The Alice Wood Memorial Scholarship was started in 2004 in memory of a friend, teammate, and student-athlete, Alice Wood.
Alice was a member of the North Kitsap Class of 2001 and was active in Girls Basketball, Volleyball, Fastpitch, and Athletic Medicine. She was named the 2001 Joe Shandera Award Winner as Outstanding Female Athlete.
Halfway into her Freshman year in college, Alice was diagnosed with an aggressive form of Krohn’s Disease. She battled the disease valiantly, however, she contracted an infection after hip replacement surgery, and died in the spring of 2003.
Alice Wood was a great person, teammate, and friend. Her unselfish nature and strong leadership skills were significant in her role as a team player. Her caring and fun-loving nature made her a friend to all who knew her.
The 2003-04 North Kitsap High Girls Basketball team initiated the scholarship to honor Alice and carry on her spirit in the program. The Girls Basketball program has established a scholarship/endowment of $500 to be given annually to a North Kitsap High School girl basketball player. The North Kitsap Schools Foundation (NKSF) is administering the scholarship. A player is nominated by her teammates for the following attributes: Leadership, Unselfishness, Team Player, Work Ethic, and Friendship. These were the attributes Alice contributed to the NKHS Girls Basketball Program.
