History and Highlights
* We received our IRS non-profit status in January 2003 as a public foundation. This designation affords a favored tax status to donors and provides us the flexibility to establish a variety of Donor Funds from “pass-through” to “endowment”. Groups or individuals can establish a Named Fund for a specific purpose or to honor or memorialize an individual.
* Since November 2004 we have awarded 62 classroom grants totaling over $20,000 to teachers for innovative and creative learning projects.
* We have facilitated grants from area foundations for the institution and continuation of special school programs. We offer our services without fees for “pass-through” grants and donations that go directly to the school district.
* NKSF has directed over $100,000 in scholarships to graduates, $7,800 in full-day kindergarten tuition assistance, and over $7,600 to special program and student assistance funds.
* We have instituted a payroll deduction program for employees throughout the North Kitsap School District and provide matching gift opportunities to employers.
* We have assisted an alumni group with their Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament since July 2005. North Kitsap School District graduates from throughout the U.S. and from the Class of 1937 to the Class of 2005 have supported this alumni scholarship program.
* NKSF’s website, nkschoolsfoundation.org, serves as a source of information for donors as well as those seeking information and forms for classroom grants, scholarships, NKSD staff payroll deduction and NKSF special events. We recently established a Facebook page and already have more than 100 “fans”.
