North Kitsap Schools Foundation (NKSF) announced today the award of grants totaling nearly $2,000 to North Kitsap School District teachers and staff. Grant amounts ranged from $250 to $550. A grant evaluation committee of NKSF Board and community members evaluated the grant applications and selected 6 from 18 applications.
The intent of the NKSF Mini-Grant Program is to provide funding for innovative teaching ideas that teachers often fund partially or entirely out of their own pockets.
The following projects were funded:
Peer Mentor Teams “MentorPro” Software. Poulsbo Middle School Peer Mentoring Program Coordinator, Ginny Bell, will acquire a standardized and scientifically-based system for tracking and evaluating mentoring practices and outcomes for the eighty student mentors.
Mimio Interactive Technology. Elizabeth Acton, Poulsbo Middle School language arts and social studies teacher, will acquire a portable system that allows the teacher and students to interact with material projected on a white board.
Across Cultures: Book Collection. Poulsbo Elementary School librarian, Nancy Bale, will assemble a collection of books for elementary students to use in their study of Peru. The kit will be available in the library for checkout to any teacher, in any school.
Leveled Books for Kindergarten English Language Learners. NK School District English Language Learner (ELL) Program Coordinator, Suzy Rau, will purchase a new series of books for ELL teachers to use with their Kindergarten students.
Social/Emotional/Behavioral Skills Literature for Book Clubs. Carolyn Mosiman, counselor at Vinland Elementary, will acquire sets of three books for use by 3rd through 5th teachers and weekly book clubs facilitated by the school counselor.
Portable Digital Recording of Musical Endeavors. Wolfle Elementary School music specialist, Michael McCurdy, will purchase a recording system to assist in music instruction feedback and to allow for the creation of recordings of performances that students can keep.
