Kingston Middle School is one of two middle schools in the District. It is located just west of Kingston High School on West Kingston Road. It serves Kingston and the outlying communities of Eglon, Little Boston, Hansville, Port Gamble, Indianola, Suquamish, and Breidablik.
KMS teachers have had great success in receiving NK Schools Foundation classroom grants. The projects funded have been very diverse; ranging from paper airplane kits for all 7th grade science students to materials for teaching Functional Academics students math through using recipes and cooking.
Seventh grade science teacher, Mark Stebbing, has been awarded two grants over the years to enhance the unit he teaches on aeronautics. Every student built and test flew their own plane.
Functional Academics specialists Leah Titze and Paula Wood purchased kitchen utensils and food so that their students could learn planning and organization, and math by planning meals and preparing dishes from recipes.
Mary Lou Macala used grant funds to bring history kits from the Museum of History and Industry in Seattle to her classroom so that students could actually touch “historic” items like this “Peace” necklace from the 1960’s. Other items in the kits included magazines, kitchen tools, and toys from the past.
