North Kitsap High

North Kitsap High School is on Hostmark Street in Poulsbo.  Until Kingston High School opened in 2007 North Kitsap High served all of the North Kitsap School District.  It now serves the southern part of North Kitsap, including Poulsbo and the communities of Suquamish, Keyport, Vinland, and Breidablik.

NKHS teachers have been very active in applying for and receiving NK Schools Foundation grants.  Anatomy and biology teacher, Patricia Webster, has received grants to help fund field trips for anatomy and physiology students to visit to Harborview Hospital, where a doctor gave a tour of the emergency room and gave a slide presentation related to physiology and anatomy, and to Pacific Lutheran University where a professor instructed the students using cadavers.

Teachers Peggy Cook and De MacKinnon used grant funds to help pay for materials for their 11th grade English students to write and illustrate books to send to students in Uganda who are called the “Night Commuters”.  The students can only commute safely to their secure schools in town at night.

Rene Fossum taught English and remedial reading at North Kitsap High School and used grant money to purchase computerized quizzes and corresponding novels written in Spanish to be used by English Language Learners (ELL) students and Spanish class students.  She also used grant money for similar materials for her remedial reading and writing English classes.
